Competitions
The current theme competition is: ‘Winter Wonderland‘, due on March 3.
For our current theme competitions a theme will be announced at one meeting and will be due two meetings after (4 weeks). Any photos submitted must be taken in those four weeks, going through your back catalogue to find entries is not allowed.
CAPA Competitions
There are also CAPA competitions upcoming. The rules are available on the CAPA website, but the definitions are copied below. For CAPA competitions, the original image must have been captured within the last 24 months, so hunting through your back catalogue is encouraged here. Also note that for CAPA competitions, the maximum width and height of any image are 1024px and 768px respectively; if you submit a larger image we will have to resize it before it gets set to CAPA which can sometimes cause a loss in sharpness, so please resize them at home where you can ensure it still fits your vision.
Please watch the email list and calendar for updates as to when we will be taking submissions for these competitions, as they need to be selected by the club and then sent to CAPA.
Nature
Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. Photographs of animals which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible.
Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene.
After satisfying the above requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of artistic skill in all nature photographs. No composites. HDR techniques are acceptable as long as the result is what the eye naturally sees.
Open Competition
A variety of subject matter is accepted. The photographer may make enhancements that could have been done in the camera (zooms, pans, multiple exposures, blurs), cropping, or modifications that can be done in the digital darkroom, which improves the photographic presentation of the subject. Heavily manipulated images must be entered in the Digital ‘Altered Reality’ Competition category.
Altered Reality Competition
Images must be heavily manipulated and obviously creatively enhanced including composites, creative filters etc. These images are not meant to look like a regular photograph.
Theme Competition – “Footwear” (Singular, Stacks, Being Worn)
The above definition for Open Competitions regarding image editing also relates to the Theme competition. Submit images as close to this theme subject as possible. Images which do not illustrate the theme could be disqualified by the Host Club who will consult with the appropriate Chair to make the final decision.
