Competitions

We have once upcoming theme competition ‘Roadways’ (Streets/Roads), due on April 15.

We strongly encourage you to get out and shoot photos specifically for these competitions–we’re all here to learn and improve our skills–the theme competitions are designed to be a motivator to shoot more photos, or to try a subject that you don’t normally shoot.

CAPA Competitions

There are also two CAPA competitions upcoming, “Nature“, and “Open Competition“. The rules are available on the CAPA website, but the definitions are copied below. Also note that for CAPA competitions, the maximum width and height of any image are 1024px and 768px respectively.

Nature

Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. Photographs of animals which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible.
Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene.
After satisfying the above requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of artistic skill in all nature photographs. No composites.

Open Competition

A variety of subject matter is accepted. The photographer may make enhancements that could have been done in the camera (zooms, pans, multiple exposures, blurs), cropping, or modifications that can be done in the digital darkroom, which improves the photographic presentation of the subject. Heavily manipulated images must be entered in the Digital ‘Altered Reality’ Competition category.
