Ferryland

Ferryland offers a few photography sites of interest.  The Colony of Avalon is an active archeology site. This location offers walking tours of the excavated 17th century Colony of Avalon, a museum with displayed artifacts and occasionally historical reinactments.

Continuing on past the Colony of Avalon site towards the Ferryland Lighthouse, there is an interesting view of a string of small islands in Ferryland Harbour.

The Ferryland Lighthouse was built in 1870, automated in 1970 and is still active today. If you visit the Ferryland Lighthouse, you may also like to have a picnic lunch from Lighthouse Picnics.

Directions

Ferryland is approximately an hours drive from St. John’s.  Excellent directions to the Colony of Avalon are given on their website.  The lighthouse is just a short drive past the colony and is visible from the colony site. You can drive to within easy walking distance of the lighthouse, however the road is unpaved and is in fairly poor repair.
