Our Roles
Executive Board Roles
President
The President leads the board and represents Camera 35 to the public. They call for topics and create meeting agendas, chair meetings, guide the club’s direction, ensure activities align with its mission, and act as spokesperson at events, welcoming new members and fostering partnerships.
Vice President
The Vice President supports the President, steps in when they are unavailable, and often takes on special projects. This role ensures continuity of leadership and helps with planning, events, and member engagement.
Secretary
The Secretary manages the club’s records and communications, including helping with meeting agendas, minutes, membership lists, and official documentation. They ensure board actions comply with bylaws and keep the club organized and transparent.
Treasurer
The Treasurer oversees the club’s finances, prepares budgets and reports, manages accounts, and advises the board on financial matters. They ensure transparency, accountability, and fiscal health for the organization.
Directors-at-Large Directors-at-Large contribute to governance by participating actively in meetings, voting on decisions, and bringing forward ideas. They are expected to serve on committees, help organize events, and support the club’s mission through volunteer work.
Standing Committees
Outings Committee
Plans and coordinates photography outings, manages logistics, and ensures members have opportunities to practice skills in a variety of locations and settings.
Social Committee
Organizes social gatherings and events that build community among members, such as dinners, receptions, and post-outing meetups.
Competition Selection Committee
Selects the best member images for Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA) competitions, ensuring submissions meet competition requirements and showcase the club’s talent.
Other Committees
The Executive may elect to form committees on an as-needed basis, such as:
Elections Committee
The committee ensures strong and effective leadership by recruiting, screening, and recommending candidates for executive and director positions. They manage the nomination process ahead of elections, confirm that nominees are willing and eligible to serve, and present a balanced slate of candidates to the membership. The committee also supports succession planning, helping maintain continuity and stability in the club’s governance.
Membership Committee
Oversees recruitment and retention, welcomes new members, tracks membership status, and ensures the club maintains an engaged, active base of photographers.
Finance Committee
Supports the Treasurer by reviewing budgets, monitoring spending, and recommending policies that ensure responsible financial management.
Volunteer Expectations
With about 100 members, Camera 35 depends on active involvement. Board and committee members are expected to attend meetings, contribute ideas, take ownership of tasks, and represent the club positively. Every member’s effort helps sustain a welcoming, creative, and professional environment.
